5 out of 5 stars Good improvement over Clarion Pro Audio   July 18, 2010

Well created and an excellent deal (and note that only the second image on this page are the product itself, the first image is the matching--and normally larger--front speaker.) My car utilizes 5x7 speakers for both front and back and the rear were a very cheap speaker that had most of the flexible outer material disintegrate (it's more of a foam than a resilient compound) and subsequently not very good for acoustics.

I installed the Kenwood speakers to the front and moved the Clarion speakers to the rear. Upon starting the car again I had Sting while he was in 'The Police' on an SD memory card; the sound is great and has good reproduction with a bass that doesn't vibrate noisely. The overall dynamics seem slightly compressed with what I played giving less over-exaggerated qualities (usually the tweeters are over-dramatic sometimes.) Bass is strong and consistent with decent reproduction, and though mid-range is good I believe it is slightly lacking, perhaps because the speakers were designed for performance (read loudness) and not high-fidelity. Switching over to techno gave notice to the bass sound, which appears to be a main focus of this speaker, though admittedly "sounds like car speakers".

Overall I consider these great for replacement speakers though certainly don't expect the kind of sound you would receive from larger home audio speakers (I suppose I'm spoiled from the performance quality difference.) Usually car audio is very different and has different processing capabilities from the receiver with limitations in power as well as technical aspects due to space restriction.

I don't regret buying it though can't be sure better options exist since I never focused much on car audio.

Edit: After messing around with some of the options that exist on my receiver I can state that the performance will differ accordingly and that I notice performance will differ greatly, depending on the quality of the audio source (.mp3, sampling rate, etc.) I notice quite an improvement depending on which audio I use and will confirm this with a Miles Davis CD. I'm still a bit mixed about this because it almost appears a great portion of the audio gets "left out" with these speakers, though I can't be sure that the way I have the receiver set-up is what really is creating a shortcoming. Perhaps these speakers are letting me know how limited the audio files really are, though I consider using the same audio files on the home receiver/speakers and much greater sound quality is recognized. I'll let whomever be the judge if they mess around with these speakers.

    5 out of 5 stars Kenwood 5X7 speakers   February 14, 2010

I replaced all four of the original factory speakers in a '95 Nissan Pathfinder with the Kenwood KFC5782ie speakers. The rear ceiling locations required a little metal trimming to fit the new speakers in, but the front door locations accepted the speakers perfectly with the enclosed screws and spacers. The improvement in sound quality was breathtaking! I recommend these speakers to anyone who wants to upgrade their original 5 X 7 inch speakers.

These are a big upgrade from my factory Clarion speakers on my 94 Pathfinder. Basic upgrade but way better sound!
